C-Grade – B&LCA A3 Premiers, 2011/12
Sandy Creek fielded two teams in the A3 competition of the B&LCA in 2011/12.
The main side, Sandy Creek Green, ended the season as undefeated premiers, winning all 14 minor round games and both finals, making it back-to-back A3 premierships for the mighty Cockatoos!
It wasn’t all beer and skittles though and the Grand Final proved to be a nail biting affair.
After captain Jason Curnow won the toss and decided to bat, Sandy Creek made steady progress. At one stage they were 3/101 and headed for an impressive total. However, a collapse of 7/33 resulted in the top side being dismissed for 134. Runs on the board, but potentially gettable. Between them, Brian Silvy (48) and Jason Power (31) made a solid contribution, but only two others made double figures and there were three ducks amongst the tailenders, including the skipper.
Kapunda set about the chase in stuttering fashion, losing 3 quick wickets early, before a few 20 run partnerships got them back in the game. However, once M.Cotton bowled Sires for 27 and then May shortly after to make it 8/92, the game seemed all but over. However, Kapunda weren’t going down that easily. A last wicket partnership of 28 had hearts fluttering, before Dools sealed the deal, snaffling the last wicket as his first.
Pick of the bowlers was Cotton with 4/16, closely followed by Power’s 3/20.
