Under 17 Premiers 2020/21

The Under 17s got Sandy Creek off to a great start on Grand Final weekend, winning the premiership comfortably over South Gawler.

Shortened due to weather to a 30 overs per side battle under lights at Tanunda, the young Cockies batted first and set a very solid total of 8/143. Dylan Hoppo was the best with the bat, making a fine 51, while Harry Maher’s 38 not out at the end was crucial.

In reply, A-Grade opening bowler Will O’Brien was far too good for the South Gawler batsmen and he snaffled 5/8 off 4 overs to help roll them for just 63. Dylan Hoppo laid claims to all-rounder status as well as Man Of The Match, taking 3/15 to back up his half century.

Congratulations to coach Mark Horsburgh and assistants Daniel Koch and Adrian Pullman (former junior premiers themselves), as well as all the players. The win showcased some of the best junior talent in the Barossa league and four of the side would go on to play in the A-Grade premiership later that weekend. Well done!
